Design Development and Satchel Production is the intermediate-level class at The School of Leather here at ColsenKeane.
This four-day Workshop is designed to provide an opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired during the Fundamentals Workshop. This Workshop will focus on advanced use of template implementation and bag construction, allowing the individual to learn the art of pattern making that ultimately leads to the completion of your leather satchel or tote.
Ideal for individuals with an established understanding of the craft's fundamentals, this workshop is suitable for those interested in incorporating large-scale designs into their product catalog or advancing their hobby crafting skills.
In this Workshop, you will:

Review skills such as rivet setting, snap snapping, affixing buckles, affixing swivel snaps, and hand stitching techniques.

Enhance your understanding of basic templating techniques.

Learn advanced templating techniques and how to scale template dimensions for personal projects.

Deepen your understanding of suitable hide thicknesses for templates and project requirements.

Master advanced methods of hide cutting.

Hand-cut a hide to build either a No. 4313 Satchel OR a No. 714 Tote.

Hand-stitch a No. 4313 Satchel OR a No. 714 Tote.

Hand-cut a rear leather divider for your satchel OR tote.

Hand-set all pockets and rivets on the leather divider.

During this Workshop, you will create either a No. 4313 Minimalist Satchel or a No. 714 Tote using our templates. You will also make and add one or two leather dividers to your satchel OR tote.
Participants who complete this Workshop will receive a Certification of Completion and are eligible for a 20% discount on supplemental Workshops.
This workshop will focus on advanced patterning techniques and scaling measurements in our craft, particularly for the production of larger goods. It will take place at our studio in Charlotte, NC, scheduled for February 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th. Each day will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break provided.
Tools and leather will be provided for use in the studio.
